Um,

So remember how I said I would post every day? Yeah, about that. . .

My life right now consists of hanging out and eating food. Not very interesting nor inspiring. When I have something good to write about, I will.

Oh wait, my computer crapped it's pants. (writing this from my iphone) I have neither the ability to fix it nor the funds to pay someone else, not to mention buying a new one.

On a side note: It is hot. I have rediscovered the folding fan. I am curious why you don't see these carried more often. I think I am going to try my hand at making one. I think if I am successful at my first attempt, I will craft more, incorporating my prints onto the paper or cloth webing. Wish me luck!

Vietnam

Yesterday's death of Robert McNamara really had me thinking a lot about the war in Vietnam and what I know about it. I have decided that I know very little about it. But what I do know (besides what I've seen in fictions based upon the war) I learned from two cute kitties.

This is the clearest explanation of the Vietnam War I have ever heard. Be warned, it is just over forty minutes long. I highly recommend that you find the time to watch it.

The Lazy Onion Urban Farm


Today I went up to 63rd and Burnside to visit my friend Aaron on his farm. I believe I have mentioned it before. I am always very impressed with what he is doing there. The volume and variety of produce that he is producing is staggering and really inspiring. I lent a hand with harvesting garlic


The garlic will sit for a few weeks and dry above the chicken coop, it will then be ready for storing.

Aaron mentioned making onion rings for lunch with the sweet Walla walla onions he is growing. I noted that if he is already frying, we should make some fried Zucchini Blossoms (there were dozens of zucchini plants covered in the flowers). I had eaten them in Italy and been dying to try my hand at them, this seemed like the perfect time.

Simply dredged in egg (from the farm's chickens) and lightly rolled through herbed flower, then fried:

The final result is light and fluffy, crisp and flavorful, savory and filling:

The onion rings, fresh from the garden (who says home grown veggies have to be healthy?):

We crunched happily on sweet peas as Aaron grilled up some tasty salmon and fire roasted a few heads of the garlic we pulled up. Awesome. What an amazing lunch, almost everything we ate came from the farm.
